SCC ITV Courses are broadcast LIVE on Comcast Ch. 18, Surewest Ch. 18, and on ATT U-verse via the channel 99 menu.
They are also streamed live online, archived on a website for later viewing, or as a video download from that website.
You need to have access to a broadband internet connection.
As for the archive, the flash stream should be updated shortly after class is over and the QuickTime download should be up later that evening, but if any issues arise, they should both be there by at least the next day.
You can access the GCOM 330 video lectures page directly here: http://saccity-online.org/de/itv-archive/gcom-330/
The class will also stream LIVE here: http://wserver.scc.losrios.edu/de/120livestream.html but remember this is just for the live stream.
- GCOM SCC ITV / Online courses have only mandatory attendance the first and last session, everything else is online.
- Lectures run typically around 100 minutes, once per week, for 16 weeks.
- Required Lab time (165 minutes each week - 2.5 hours) can be done at home, work, or on campus in our labs.
- Homework is submitted either via email or uploading to a web server. You will receive instructions on how to do this in class.
GCOM 330 – Digital Imaging 1 is a project-based introductory graphic design course that introduces both core design principles and the software Adobe Photoshop CS5.
And now the details:
SCC ITV courses are also available as an archived streaming flash video that can be accessed typically about an hour after the live broadcast. These archived video lectures each week remain online for your access for the entire semester. They are removed from the online servers after the semester ends.
Video Downloads: A higher quality video download from the internet is also available by the next day after a lecture. They are large, high quality videos, around 400-500 MB each, and you can download them to your computer and save them. The links to download these are also available throughout the semester and come down after the semester ends also. These downloads are useful if you have a slow or erratic internet connection.
GCOM SCC ITV courses have only a mandatory attendance the first and very last session, everything else is online, including submitting homework via uploading and watching the taped lecture whenever you want online as a web stream or downloading it.
The class is videotaped and broadcast live in a classroom, with actual fellow students, and you are most welcome to come in-person each week or at your leisure throughout the semester. In addition, most instructors who teach multiple sections will allow you to come to any section if it accommodates your schedule.
For example, if GCOM 330 is offered at 3 or 4 different section times, and, if you are enrolled in an SCC ITV class, you can come to any section you want, or watch the entire course online. You must of course attend IN PERSON the first class and the very last class of the semester.
In person GCOM courses have “in-person” labs that can typically follow the lecture for about an hour, and SCC ITV students are always welcome to attend any in-person lab section where the instructor will be in attendance to help you.
Getting help via email is very difficult when you are lost and confused. If you are having trouble, you really must come to campus and get help from the instructor or our Design Lab.
You are ALWAYS welcome to use our amazing Design Lab on campus, staffed by trained tutors.
YOU MUST WATCH THE VIDEO LECTURE EACH WEEK AND CHECK THE CLASS WEBSITE EACH WEEK, AS THE SITE IS UPDATED WEEKLY THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER.
The REQUIRED lab hours (about 3 hours each week) can be done at home or work if you have the software available ONLY IF you are enrolled as an SCC ITV student. Otherwise, you must come to campus and perform your work in the Design Lab or during an in-person class lab section.
SCC ITV Courses are typically in either room LRC-120 or LRC-121 (the large 3-storey Learning Resources Building).
Attendance is MANDATORY for the first class session, PERIOD.
If you are enrolled in the course and do not show up for this first session, I will have to drop you and make room for someone on the wait list at that time.
PLEASE PLAN AHEAD. Parking is always crazy the first couple of weeks of each semester. Plan on plenty of time to get to class.

HOLD ONTO YOUR QUESTIONS FOR NOW. I will go over all the details of the course during the first session, hand out the syllabus, and explain how things work, answer all of your questions...so others can hear them, and we will tour the Design Lab....so save any questions for then.
A Special Note for Online / TV Students:
Taking the TV / Online class requires you to have a lot of self discipline. This means that you must log on to the Web site several times each week to read the class lecture and to do the assignments – ALL ON YOUR OWN. No one will be calling your home to remind you to “come to class”. This class is perfect for students who have the ability to learn on their own, aren’t afraid to ask questions, and who want to learn this material. If you are taking this class only because the face-to-face version just didn’t fit your schedule or was full, please consider waiting another semester and taking it then. Last semester half the students who registered either failed the class or dropped. This class is in fact harder than the face-to-face version because you need self discipline. You will learn exactly the same material and have exactly the same assignments as the face-to-face section of GCOM 330, but you will not witness the lecture demonstrations live, but only on TV or streamed on the internet.
Thank you!

Lab Component:
In addition to the weekly lecture, you have a lab component totaling 54 hours for the semester. This works out to about 3.5 hours per week. This is time in addition to any reading or homework. Realistically, this course demands about 8 hours per week if you total the lecture, the reading, homework, and lab time. Take advantage of our amazing computer lab our division runs in T-109 called the Advanced Technology Design Lab. It is outfitted with the very latest software and the latest, fastest, powerful dual boot (Mac OS or Windows OS) iMacs.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure you sign-in when you use our Design Lab - you will enter your student ID # into the terminal at the entrance of the lab. The lab attendance records generate funds for new equipment and software. Please get assistance in signing in if it’s your first time.
The friendly and knowledgeable faculty lab coordinators and tutors are available for assistance if you are experiencing difficulty with the homework. They have been specifically asked NOT to hand-feed you answers. They are there to help you learn and remember the material. There should always at least one lab employee close by to help you, but do not use the help as a crutch or you will not learn the material. I also recommend that you bring your textbook to the lab as reference material, especially during busy hours when one-on-one help is harder to get. Please let me know of any suggestions you have for improving the lab environment.
